A statement released here salutes the Venezuelan people “who once again, in an exemplary electoral act, decided to continue on the path of peace together with the Bolivarian project of sovereignty and social justice,” the text added.
It pointed out that “the defeat of the coup project of the continental right wing and US imperialism also becomes a milestone of the indispensable integration of the peoples of the Great Homeland.”
We salute this popular decision and call upon social and political organizations to defend the people’s right to choose their destiny, the statement concluded.
The Uruguayan Anti-imperialist Committee of Solidarity with Cuba and the Peoples of the World issued a similar statement.
The Committee expressed its congratulations to the Venezuelan people “and also to its reelected president, Nicolas Maduro.”
Once again the Venezuelan people expressed themselves democratically at the ballot box, it said.
Such statements contrast with the words of Uruguayan President Luis Lacalle Pou, who ignored victory of the Bolivarian forces in Venezuela.
