“The recent hostilities in Gaza have witnessed attacks on schools, exacerbating an already dire humanitarian situation,” UNICEF and the NGOs, Save the Children and Education Cluster, warned in a joint statement.
They stressed that 17 years of blockade, combined with recurrent conflicts, have damaged and destroyed the educational infrastructure in the coastal enclave.
This crisis, UNICEF stated, has disrupted education and affected the psychosocial well-being of children and teachers.
The Palestinian Education Ministry revealed in early July that more than 8,500 schoolchildren have been killed and 14,000 have been injured in Gaza since October 2023.
