Evening pays tribute to Cuban culture and history in New York City

New York, US, Jul 28 (Prensa Latina) An evening dedicated to National Rebelliousness Day paid tribute to the Cuban culture in this city, as part of a Week of Cuban Art and Revolution that ended this Saturday.

Attending the event were solidarity activists from the People’s Forum project and representatives of the Cuban Mission to the United Nations, including Permanent Deputy Ambassador to the United Nations, Yuri Gala.

The activity included launching the book “Haydee habla del Moncada” (Haydee Speaks of Moncada), and opening the exhibition “La Chispa que Encendio la Revolucion Cubana” (The Spark that Ignited the Cuban Revolution), a collection of posters as a tribute to Haydee Santamaria, who was a founder and director of the Casa de las Americas cultural institution until she died in 1980.

The Week of Cuban Art and Revolution, which started on July 20, aims to celebrate the art and culture of the revolutionary process and teach significant lessons about cultural production and its necessity as a tool in a larger struggle for the liberation around the world, organizer Hannah Priscila Craig stated.

We want to share the incredible legacy of the Cuban culture with US citizens to build bridges and inspire new revolutionary traditions of art and culture, she told Prensa Latina.

As part of the program, the People’s Forum headquarters presented to the US public a varied selection of classic Cuban films, such as “Retrato de Teresa” (Portrait of Teresa), “Now,” or “Jose Marti, El Ojo del Canario” (Jose Marti, Eye of the Canary), which will be exhibited this Saturday.
