In a very close fight, the two-time Cuban Olympic boxing champion La Cruz fell in his debut at the Paris 2024 event, losing to Loren Alfonso, fighting for Azerbaidzhan in the section of 92 kg.

La Cruz had a highly strategic fight, winning 4-1 in the first round but succumbing in the second and third to lose by split decision 2-3 to Alfonso.

La Cruz’s defeat prevents him from his aspirations to win his third title in summer competitions after those achieved in Rio de Janeiro 2016 and Tokyo 2020.
