Regulations to guarantee presidential elections in Venezuela

Caracas, Jul 27 Jul (Prensa Latina) The Venezuelan ministries of Defense and Internal Relations, Justice and Peace activated Resolution 72, which establishes mandatory rules for citizens to comply with, from July 26 to 29.

The provision entered into force after midnight on Thursday, and will be in force until 23:59 hours, local, time next Monday, after the conclusion of Sunday’s presidential elections.

Both military institutions have the purpose of guaranteeing the protection of citizens and their right to participate in the elections, to which 21,620,705 voters, who will cast their vote in more than 30,000 electoral centers throughout the country, have been summoned.

The Strategic Operational Command of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (Ceofanb), through the Strategic Regions of Integral Defense, will establish a strict control of border movements, by land, air and sea, as well as vehicles.

It will safeguard “the inviolability of the borders and prevent activities of people that could represent threats to national security,” on the occasion of the elections.

The Police and other duly authorized security agencies will proceed “to the immediate closure of establishments and businesses that incur in disrespect and non-observance of the aforementioned provisions”, according to the resolution.

It also prohibits, throughout the national territory, public meetings and demonstrations, concentrations of people and any other similar act that may disturb or affect the normal development of the electoral process, always during the same timetable.

The document stated that each police force will continue to provide its services “to guarantee security in the corresponding jurisdiction” in compliance with the instructions issued by the Ceofanb and may only act or intervene upon express instructions of the Ceofanb.
