China launches another round of shuttle diplomacy on Ukraine

Beijing, Jul 26 (Prensa Latina) China will launch the fourth round of shuttle diplomacy as of July 28 to address the crisis in Ukraine, the Foreign Ministry said.

The announcement by spokeswoman Mao Ning comes a few days after a meeting here between the Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba and his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi.

The spokeswoman stressed that the conflict has been escalating for almost two and a half years, with continued fighting and an uncertain outlook for peace negotiations.

According to Mao, the risk of the spread of this crisis is a growing concern for the international community, especially for the countries of the Global South.

“In this context, China will send Li Hui, the Chinese government’s special representative for Eurasian affairs, to visit Brazil, South Africa and Indonesia starting on July 28,” she said.

Mao stressed the urgent need to de-escalate tensions, adding that “as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council and a responsible nation, China remains committed to finding a political solution to the crisis.”

According to the spokeswoman, this will be an opportunity to exchange views with important members of the Global South on the current situation and the peace talks process, as well as to explore ways to promote de-escalation and accumulate conditions for the resumption of talks.

Just this week, the Ukrainian Foreign Minister said here that Kiev is ready for “substantial and rational” dialogue and negotiations.
