Chileans in Valparaiso commemorate Cuba’s July 26 heroic deed (+Photos)

Valparaíso, Chile, Jul 26 (Prensa Latina) Chilean friends of Cuba commemorated in the city of Valparaíso 71st the anniversary of the attacks on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes garrisons, an event that is considered a milestone in the history of Latin America.

The event, held at the headquarters of the Communist Party of Chile (CPCh) in this port city, was organized by the Zonal V Coast-Valparaiso of the Cuba Solidarity Movement.

The heroic deed that took place 71 years ago allowed the accumulation of forces to achieve the triumph of the Revolution in 1959, a process that in Latin America has been a guide, Councilwoman Alicia Zúñiga said at the event.

Cuba, from being practically a colony, took a firm step towards its sovereignty, something that US imperialism has never forgiven, the official said in the name of Zonal V.

Clearly, she added, the solidarity that Cuba has expressed since the early days to other peoples in their struggle for independence is also a reason why the United States has imposed and tightened the criminal economic, commercial and financial blockade.

“We are here today because we believe that it is time to increase our support for Cuba, to give our hand back to those who have given everything, to those who have made solidarity a way of life,” Zuñiga pointed out.

Fabian Aguilera, on behalf of the Daniel Lopez Jara Construction Workers Union, said that the organization could not be absent from the commemoration of the Moncada heroic deed.

Cuba is, and has always been, a light for the peoples who are still under the yoke of imperialism and its cruelest expression, fascism, Aguilera noted.

During the commemoration, messages of greetings were read by lawmakers Boris Barrera and María Candelaria Acevedo, both from the CPCh.
