Hanoi, Jul 25 (Prensa Latina) With deep sorrow Vietnam bid farewell today to the late general secretary of the Communist Party (VCP), Nguyen Phu Trong, whom the Vietnamese head of State, To Lam, defined as a particularly excellent leader.

Nguyen Phu Trong was a staunch communist and a brilliant example who tirelessly studied and followed the ideology, moral example and working style of historical leader Ho Chi Minh, To Lam wrote in the book of condolences opened at the National Funeral Home of this capital, one of the places where the funeral honors are held.

Lam stressed that the top Party leader was a figure of great prestige and a great friend of the people around the world, who devoted his whole life to the nation, the Party and the people, and made enormous contributions to the revolutionary cause and the maintenance of peace, stability and development in the region and the world.

The Vietnamese President pledged that the next generations will follow the General Secretary’s example, do their utmost to serve the country and the people, and strive to build a peaceful, independent, united, democratic, prosperous, civilized and happy country, as the late leader wished during his lifetime, the VNA news agency reported.

Nguyen Phu Trong’s funeral services began simultaneously at 07:00 (local time) at the aforementioned capital’s Funeral House, as well as at the Reunification Palace in southern Ho Chi Minh City and his homeland in Dong Hoi commune, Dong Anh district, Hanoi.

Delegations from the Communist Party of Vietnam, the State, the National Assembly, the Government and the Fatherland Front were the first to pay solemn tribute to Phu Trong this morning, followed by numerous international delegations and delegations from ministries, sectors and the public. Vietnam declared July 25 and 26 as national mourning days in memory of the beloved leader and flags were flown at half-mast.

Media outlets here highlighted the tribute paid to Phu Trong yesterday in Havana by the First Secretary of the Communist Party and President of Cuba, Miguel Diaz-Canel, at the head of a high-level delegation.
