Cuba denounces in France the impact of the U.S. blockade

Paris, Jul 25 (Prensa Latina) The Cuban ambassador to France, Otto Vaillant, today denounced the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on the island and exposed its consequences on several sectors of society.

The diplomat made a presentation on the Cuban reality in the house ‘I am Cuba in Tremblay-en-France’, a space dedicated to the island nation in connection with the celebration of the Paris-2024 Olympic Games, which will be inaugurated tomorrow.

In the presence of Tremblay authorities, French supporters and members of the island’s Olympic delegation, Vaillant described as unjust and genocidal the policy implemented by Washington to try to destroy the Cuban Revolution and starve its people.

That is the price we have paid for more than 60 years for assuming the right to independence, he warned on the eve of the celebration in Cuba of the National Rebellion Day, which commemorates the assault on the Moncada barracks on July 26, 1953.

In the context of the Paris-2024 games under the five rings, the ambassador addressed the impact of the U.S. siege on sports, a hostility that also affects strategic areas for any country, such as health and education.

The Covid-19 pandemic was exploited by the United States for tightening, with more than 240 measures adopted by the administration of Donald Trump (2017-2021), which his successor in the White House, Joseph Biden, maintained, he said.

One of those measures was the re-inclusion of Cuba in the unilateral U.S. list of countries sponsoring terrorism, aimed at boosting financial strangulation.

Vaillant pointed out that despite so many decades of aggressiveness, Cuba has not renounced its solidarity with other peoples.

In his speech at the ‘I am Cuba’ house in Tremblay-en-France, the diplomat reiterated the decision to resist Washington’s crusade and to preserve the path chosen in a sovereign manner.

He also thanked the solidarity with Cuba in France and acknowledged the authorities of Tremblay-en-France and the association Cuba Coopération France (CubaCoop) for their efforts to make possible the space dedicated to the island in the Olympic stage.
