In a statement on its website, the Executive referred to the decision regarding the vote for a new Bundestag, elected every four years by citizens over 18 years old, by universal, free, direct and secret vote.

He stressed that, although the Federal Cabinet, after discussions with the Länder and parliamentary groups, proposed this date, it is ‘only a recommendation’.
