The statements came after the meeting in this capital between the foreign minister of China, Wang Yi, and Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba.
The head of Chinese diplomacy underscored the risk of escalation and expansion of the conflict and emphasized Beijing’s commitment to promoting a political solution to the crisis.
Wang mentioned the “six-point consensus” proposed by China and Brazil, which sets out principles for regulating the conflict, necessary elements for a peace plan, humanitarian protection concerns, nuclear risk prevention, and supply chain stability.
“Both sides of the conflict have recently shown a certain willingness to negotiate, despite the conditions and timing are not yet right, we support all efforts that contribute to peace and are ready to continue to play a constructive role in the ceasefire and resumption of negotiations,” the Chinese diplomat stressed.
The Chinese foreign minister also assured that Beijing will continue providing humanitarian aid to Ukraine, expanding grain imports from Ukraine, and keeping logistical routes open to ensure international food security.
Kuleba’s visit to China is the first since the outbreak of the conflict.
According to the Ukrainian side, it aims to discuss “China’s possible role in achieving a just and sustainable peace.”
