Portugal seeks a closer and multifaceted relationship with Angola

Luanda, Jul 23 (Prensa Latina) The Prime Minister of Portugal, Luís Montenegro, affirmed that his visit to Angola should lead to a closer, fraternal, and multifaceted relationship, for the economic growth and prosperity of both countries and peoples.

The Portuguese Prime Minister, who is visiting Angola for the first time, noted that this trip reinforces the excellent bilateral relationship and defines priorities in common areas of interest, particularly concerning politics, economy, trade and investment, mobility, education, and vocational training.

Montenegro stated in an interview with Jornal de Angola, that in the economic area, Portugal intends to support the reform agenda and the priorities defined by the Angolan Executive for development by promoting and reinforcing public financing instruments, such as the Line of Credit.

The authority mentioned support for the diversification of the economy and strategic projects for Angola and the region, such as the Lobito Corridor, as well as the willingness to share Portuguese experiences in terms of increasing productivity, improving sustainability, and resilience of crops.

Montenegro highlighted the contributions that the business forum, planned in the context of the Luanda International Fair, can make, which will have the participation of hundreds of Portuguese and Angolan companies. He also referred to other cooperation spaces to promote entrepreneurship and the training of human resources as part of the Portuguese Cooperation Strategy 2030 and the Portugal-Angola Strategic Cooperation Program 2023-2027.

The Prime Minister explained that there is a good business environment between the two countries, nevertheless, there are always aspects to improve on both sides to perfect the instruments and make them more effective, resolving obstacles and reducing bureaucracy.

“I am convinced that the Portuguese-Angolan bilateral relationship is going through a very good moment, but I face this visit with ambition, with the firm conviction that we can reach new levels of excellence,” Montenegro told Jornal de Angola.
