Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi attended the closing ceremony and witnessed the signing of the deal, which he described as historic for the cause of Palestinian liberation.
According to the head of Chinese diplomacy, the most crucial outcome of this talks between the several factions was the confirmation that the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) is the sole legitimate representative of the entire Palestinian people.
In addition, he said that the most outstanding point is the agreement to focus on post-conflict governance in Gaza and the setting up of a temporary national reconciliation government.
Wang Yi added that the main call of this agreement is to achieve true Palestinian independence in accordance with the relevant United Nations resolutions.
“The process of internal reconciliation among the Palestinian factions is essential to strengthen trust, keep the right direction and move forward gradually,” he emphasized.
The foreign minister pointed out that on this path, China shares the same direction and goals with Arab and Islamic countries.
In his view, the Palestinian issue is “the core of the Middle East problem” and he proposed a three-step approach to resolve this situation.
