In a statement to which Prensa Latina had access, the political force recalled that a group of young revolutionaries, led by Fidel Castro, participated in that military action in eastern Cuba.

It described the event as historic, adding that it marked the beginning of a process of struggles that would conclude with the overthrow of dictator Fulgencio Batista and the beginning of a process that would triumph on January 1, 1959.

July 26 represents the Cuban people’s revolutionary ratification, the reaffirmation of their economic and social model, and their decision to continue to defend socialism, the only system capable of guaranteeing the people’s well-being.

“Since that moment and for more than 60 years, US imperialism has tried to defeat the Cuban Revolution,” the URNG-MAÍZ stressed.
