Death toll rises after new Israeli offensive in Gaza

Gaza-1-2
Ramallah, Jul 23 (Prensa Latina) At least 77 Palestinians died and another 200 were injured in the last 24 hours during a new ground offensive by the Israeli Army against the city of Khan Yunis, in the Gaza Strip, medical sources reported.

The territory’s health authorities informed that about 30 persons remain buried under the rubble after the Israeli bombings against buildings in the city.

The Wafa news agency reported that the attack “coincides with the forced displacement of tens of thousands of citizens amid catastrophic humanitarian and medical conditions.”

Three months after withdrawing from Khan Yunis, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) ordered the evacuation of the eastern area yesterday, and minutes later, launched a large wave of bombings before moving in their soldiers.

The Nasser Medical Complex indicated that it received hundreds of people after the start of the campaign in just a few hours. “We are losing the lives of the sick and injured due to lack of capabilities. We do not have the minimum resources and supplies to treat the injured,” warned a medical source cited by Wafa.

According to Wafa, the IDF also decided to reduce the size of the Al-Mawasi “safe zone”, where hundreds of thousands of Palestinians are taking refuge. Although it was declared safe, the area was targeted by several Israeli attacks, including one carried out 10 days ago that left 90 dead and 300 wounded under the pretext of eliminating Mohammed Deif, head of Hamas’ military wing.

The news agency highlighted that “immediately after the Army’s decision, an intense bombardment operation began against Khan Yunis without allowing citizens to flee.”

Referring to the issue, the Al-Jazeera television network stated that the new attack occurred only 15 minutes after the evacuation order, announced in Arabic by the IDF spokesman, who issued the alert with the argument of a new military offensive against the Palestinian militias, who supposedly returned to the area after the withdrawal of the Israeli forces.
