Veteran US actor and activist Danny Glover celebrates his birthday

Los Angeles, Jul 22 (Prensa Latina) Veteran US actor Danny Glover is celebrating his 78th birthday and a very fruitful life between acting, music and activism in defense of the rights of African Americans and minorities in his country on Monday.

Glover, a great friend of Cuba, of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, and of other Latin American countries, is most remembered for the duet of police officers in all four “Lethal Weapon” films (1987, 1989, 1992 and 1998), together with New York-born actor Mel Gibson.

The saga, according to Forbes estimates, sold more than 116 million tickets in the United States alone.

Glover has also had starring roles in films such as “The Color Purple,” “Predator 2” and “Operation Dumbo Drop.”

Other roles, but secondary, made him stand out, such as “Silverado” and “Jumanji: The Next Level.”

In 2022 the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences honored Glover with the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award; he received numerous accolades, including the Friendship Medal from the Cuban Council of State; nominations for four Primetime Emmy Awards, an equal number for Grammy Awards and a Daytime Emmy Award.

The digital publication IndieWire named him one of the best actors who never received an Oscar nomination.

He studied at the American Conservatory Theater’s Black Actors Workshop Academy and started out as a stage actor.

Glover is an active supporter of several political causes and currently serves on the advisory board of Telesur television network.
