The Gaza authorities’ Media Office said in a statement that the most recent fatality was Moatasem Mahmoud Ghorab, who worked for several media outlets.
A week ago the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate accused Israeli security forces and settlers of carrying out more than 500 attacks against journalists in the occupied territories in the first six months of this year.
During a press conference in the city of Al-Bireh, the head of the syndicate’s Freedoms Committee, Muhammad Al-Laham, stressed that 44 have since been killed and 108 others injured.
In the first six months, Israeli troops arrested 26 Palestinian journalists and raided the homes of 14, he stressed.
Since the start of its operations in Gaza in October, the army has also attacked dozens of the headquarters of media institutions, including the offices of Al Jazeera, Palestine TV, the Maan news agency, as well as the Al Quds and Al Ayyam newspapers.
This year, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization awarded Palestinian communicators covering the conflict the Guillermo Cano Award in recognition of their work.
