Safronkov, during the meeting, reaffirmed Moscow’s support for the Palestinian people’s struggle to achieve independence and a sovereign state, the official Wafa news agency reported.

In response, Abbas thanked his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, for “Russia’s firm positions towards the Palestinian people”.

He also stressed the historical relations between the two sides and the desire of the Palestinian leadership to strengthen them.

The ruler explained to the visitor about the latest developments in the occupied territories, in particular, the Israeli military campaign against Gaza, which has been going on for more than nine months.

Abbas reiterated his call for an immediate halt to the war and the attacks in the West Bank, while demanding an increase in the volume of humanitarian aid for the coastal enclave and the withdrawal of the occupation troops.

The President defended the only solution to the historic dispute: the creation of a Palestinian State, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
