A COP statement noted the presence of the legendary Guillermo Alfredo Torres and Leonel Fraga, who are attending the National Sports Shooting Championship in the Skeet Shotgun modality (skeet shooting) at the facilities of the Balboa Club, in this capital.
The training will serve as a base for the athletes who will represent Panama in the World Junior Shooting Sports Championship in Lima, Peru, next September and October, in the Skeet and Pistol modalities.
The president of the Panamanian Shooting Federation, Eduardo Taylor, pointed out that in the local competition, athletes from the junior and senior categories competed, and noted that this opportunity was witnessed by Cuban Ambassador Victor Cairo and COP President Damaris Young.
Torres, an individual and team medalist at the Pan American Games and the Central American and Caribbean Games, has also participated in six Olympics.
His impressive career places him as the first Cuban to win an individual medal in a world championship, when he won the bronze medal in the world event in Valencia, Venezuela, in 1987.
