Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Mao Ning stated that the ruling “responds to the general concerns and expectations of the international community.”
Mao pointed out that China has played an active role in the ICJ process, and submitted written opinions and oral statements reflecting its positions on key issues of international law.
“We will continue to participate constructively in international legal affairs, taking concrete measures to uphold justice,” Mao asserted.
Regarding the conflict in the Gaza Strip, the spokeswoman reaffirmed that China is on the “side of peace and justice, and supports the common wishes of most countries and human conscience.”
The diplomat also called on the international community to use the ICJ’s advisory opinion as a guide in its efforts to resolve the Palestinian conflict and achieve a lasting and stable peace in the Middle East.
The top UN court issued an advisory opinion requested in December 2022 by the United Nations General Assembly on the occupied territories of the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
China has repeatedly stressed its call for an immediate ceasefire, urged to defuse the dire humanitarian situation and implement the two-State solution.
