Microsoft’s global failure with no major impact on Panama

Microsoft1-1
Panama City, Jul 20 (Prensa Latina) The IT failure of the global company Microsoft that impacted airport operations and other key sectors at the international level had little repercussion in Panama, according to official statements today.

According to a note from Palacio de las Garzas (seat of the Executive), said generalized affectation, caused by a defective update of the company CrowdStrike, did affect the check-in process of passengers at the Tocumen International Airport, in this capital city.

The Presidency also indicated that based on informations from the Civil Aeronautical Authority, the air navigation system does not use Microsoft 365 platform, so the worldwide affectation only had a local impact on the airlines’ check-in systems.

Claudio Dutary, operations manager of the main air terminal and recurrent regional hub, affirmed to the press that all systems related to aircraft management, flight aircraft, and communication with navigation systems were not interrupted.

The official report adds that the country’s public institutions did not register major incidents due to Microsoft’s failure.

The National Authority for Government Innovation indicated it was working on the State’s digital services to “guarantee efficiency and the normal development of activities”.

On the other hand, the Panama Canal operations were not interrupted thanks to the update of a cybersecurity component of CrowdStrike.

In its report, the Panama Canal Authority (ACP) assured that operations continued as normal and that all services were provided as planned, reaffirming its commitment to the security and efficiency of its activities.
