The mowing down of the ministerial council, one of several appeasement measures decreed by President Ruto during the crisis, was also criticized by the opposition, who considers it “a cosmetic measure”.

Generally accepted statistics put the number of dead at 50 and 400 injured during clashes between demonstrators and police, who used tear gas to disperse the protests and arrested hundreds of people during the rallies.
