Colombian President to lead Independence Day celebrations

Bogota, Jul 20 (Prensa Latina) The President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, will lead the celebration of the National Independence Day and install the ordinary sessions of the Congress of the Republic.

During this day, the president will attend a review to be held in this capital to commemorate the event, in which members of the National Army, the Colombian Navy, the Colombian Air Force, and the National Police will march martially to show the capabilities with which they support security, as reported earlier by the Presidency.

The note added that the Air Command of Military Transport provided Boeing-737 aircraft for more than 1,500 troops, going from several regions to Bogota, as part of the delegations participating in the event.

In the afternoon, Petro will address the full Congress of the Republic and install the ordinary sessions of that body for the 2024-2025 period.

Previously, according to the protocol, the head of State will receive at the Casa de Nariño a commission of congressmen who will invite him and accompany him to the Elliptical Hall of the National Capitol, the Presidency informed. According to the President, he will report on the achievements of the first two years of his administration in the areas of social justice, environmental justice, and total peace, including Pension Reform, the reduction of monetary poverty and extreme poverty, the reduction of deforestation and the improvement of public safety indexes.
