The collapse occurred in Zhashui county, northern Shaanxi province, following heavy rains and flash floods.
Rescue work continues at the site and according to the official statement, as of 10:00 am local time, five vehicles and 11 fatalities were found, while nearly 20 vehicles and more than 30 people are missing.

In early May, the southern province of Guangdong reported the collapse of a section of the Meizhou-Dabu highway that caused at least 48 deaths.
The region had been under the influence of heavy rains and floods for several weeks, which also caused millions of dollars in losses, house collapses, and other damage.
