UN concerned about risk in Middle East after Houthi attack

United Nations, July 19 (Prensa Latina) The recent Houthi attack against the capital of Israel could lead to further escalation in the region, UN Secretary General António Guterres warned today, insisting on the need to reduce tensions.

A statement released by his spokesperson condemned the incident reported this Friday that caused the death of one person and several injuries.

Guterres urged all actors to exercise maximum restraint and de-escalate to prevent the situation in the Middle East from escalating further.

At the same time, he ratified the commitment of the United Nations to support efforts for peace and stability in the region.

Hours earlier, the Houthi rebels of the Ansar Allah movement claimed responsibility for the attack reported in Tel Aviv, which left one dead and 10 injured.

The spokesman for military operations, Yahya Sari, reported on his Telegram channel that the operation was carried out with a new drone capable of evading enemy interception systems and undetectable by radars.

For its part, the Israeli army acknowledged that a large drone was used in the early morning attack, although it reported that it was not shot down due to human error.

The Yemeni rebels announced that area will be a main target within the range of their weapons, adding that they had a bank of sensitive targets in occupied Palestine, including military and security.

Since last November 19, the group that is part of the Ansar Allah movement proclaimed its decision to attack ships related to Israel in the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea, in response to Israeli aggression against Gaza.

The Houthis control northern Yemen, including the capital, after taking up arms against the government in 2014, which keeps the country mired in a civil war.
