During his usual press conference, López Obrador announced the upcoming sending of a letter to the Republican candidate for the United States elections, Donald Trump, considering “they are not informing him well about the immigration issue” and about the importance of maintaining the economic integration in North America.
In the first case, “I am going to show you that migrants do not bring drugs to the United States, that this is a vile lie, that migrants go to the United States to work honestly and that nation was established and became a power thanks to migrants from all over the world,” said the president.
“And I also inform you that economic integration helps us and that closing the border does not solve anything, what’s more: it cannot be done. “Neither should, nor can,” expressed the ruler from the National Palace.
In his opinion, “what they are telling you is that cars can be built in the United States would mean that on average each car sold” that would cost the citizen of that country between 15 thousand and 20 thousand dollars more.
“The border would not be closed for a month. Neither the producers, nor the manufacturers, nor the investors, nor the workers of the United States would put up with it. It would also affect us, but it would affect them more,” he emphasized.
When accepting his nomination at the close of the Republican National Convention, Trump included mention of the economic issue and inflation, which are among the greatest concerns of American voters, but he also referred to an alleged “invasion” along the southern border regarding the migration crisis.
He also reiterated that if elected, he will close the border and carry out mass deportations of undocumented migrants, a policy that activists and organizations defending the rights of migrants reject.
