ICJ considers Israel’s presence in Palestinian territories illegal

The Hague, The Netherlands, Jul 19 (Prensa Latina) The International Court of Justice (ICJ) on Friday considered Israel's ongoing presence in the Palestinian territories illegal in a historic decision that called on Tel Aviv to evacuate all occupying settlers.

The top United Nations court further demanded ‘an immediate end of all new settlement activities’ and recommended other states not to recognize Israel’s illegal presence in Palestinian demarcations.

‘International organizations, including the United Nations, are under the obligation of not recognizing as lawful the situation arising from the illegal presence of the State of Israel in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT),’ the document further said.

The ICJ urged other UN bodies, such as the General Assembly and the Security Council, to consider the precise modalities and additional measures necessary to put an end as soon as possible to the illegal presence of the State of Israel in the OPT.

The court’s decision is an advisory opinion in response to the request issued in December 2022 by the UN General Assembly.
