Hungarian leader sends peace proposals to EU leaders

Budapest, Jul 19 (Prensa Latina) Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban sent the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, his proposals to reduce tensions in Ukraine, local newspaper MTI highlighted.

Orban formulated theses for the European Union (EU)leaders, based on his negotiations with the presidents of Ukraine, Russia, China, Türkiye, and the US presidential candidate, Donald Trump.

The president trusts that the EU can begin a new chapter in its policy to reduce tensions in Ukraine.

As the Hungarian leader pointed out, up until now the European strategy has only copied the pro-war policy of the United States and lacked a sovereign and independent political strategy or action plan.

Orban hopes to find “a window of opportunity with a strong moral and rational basis to begin a new chapter” in EU politics, for which efforts could be made to reduce tensions and create the conditions for a temporary ceasefire and begin peace talks.

He also proposed that European leaders reopen direct lines of diplomatic communication with Russia and reestablish direct political contacts. He also took the initiative to hold high-level talks with China to determine the format of the next peace conference on Ukraine.

The Hungarian Prime Minister drew attention to the fact that the EU policy on the Ukrainian track has led the region to lose the recognition of the Global South, and isolated the European Union on the world stage.
