A 94 year-old man perished while three others remain in serious condition due to the fire, while three other seniors suffered “minor” injuries. An 85-year-old woman and two men, aged 80 and 54, were treated and discharged at the scene for minor smoke intoxication.

According to the Interior Ministry, the fire started in the living room of the nursing home where nine elderly people were being cared for, of whom one 80 year-old woman and two 82 year-old women were admitted to the National Burn Center – CENAQUE.

This fire broke out after the one registered on July 7, in a nursing home in the Treinta y Tres Department (northeast of this capital), which caused the death of 10 residents.
