UN agencies forced to halt food deliveries in Gaza

United Nations, Jul 18 (Prensa Latina) The massive displacements in Gaza, considered the largest reported since October 7, forced to cut food portions delivered by UN agencies, warned the agency today.

World Food Program (WFP) reports released here said that the delivery of rations is made more difficult because of the high number of forcibly displaced people who remain in the agency’s shelters and homes.

The UN estimates that nine out of 10 Palestinians have been forced to leave their homes.

Israeli orders to vacate areas often classified as ‘safe’ led to massive displacements at least once a month.

As a result, since the current round of the conflict between Israel and the Hamas group erupted, some civilians have been displaced up to nine and ten times.

According to the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), its workers are reducing food to ensure wider coverage for people who have been recently displaced in Gaza City, located in the central part of the enclave.

OCHA also confirmed that the Israeli military halted all aid missions to northern Wadi Gaza on Wednesday, the river valley that divides the enclave in two.

‘This meant that humanitarian workers were unable to reach any of the hundreds of thousands of people in need.

They also found it impossible to collect supplies at the northern entry point of West Erez,’ the agency lamented in its latest update.

Many WFP distribution points had to relocate or close due to lack of supplies or from Israeli orders.

‘We urgently need more food deliveries and increased capacity to deliver hot meals,’ WFP warned in a message posted on its Twitter account.
