In front of the MPs of the National Assembly of People’s Power – Parliament, Alonso updated on the economic progress in the first half of 2024. He also delved into the coercive measures that hinder the sector’s growth.

The minister stressed that the Cuban business area plays a fundamental role in supporting the nation’s economic breakthrough, under the principle of equity and social justice.

Alonso detailed that in this period, the universe of economic actors was constituted by some 18,973 entities, of which: 2,674 are state entities, 120 mixed enterprises, 11,046 micro, small, and medium-sized private companies, and 5,133 cooperatives. There are also 596,167 freelancers.

The official argued that the state business sector employs 1,300,000 persons, contributing to 80% of the exports of goods and services.
