Grandmothers’ association concerns over visit of MPs to criminals

Buenos Aires, Jul 18 (Prensa Latina) The Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo Association concerned over the visit of lawmakers of La Libertad Avanza (LLA) to detainees for crimes against humanity perpetrated during the last civil-military dictatorship in Argentina (1976-1983). Lately, social organizations, trade unions, and the media denounced that the legislators frequented Alfredo Astiz, Raul Guglielminetti, Carlos Suarez (son), Antonio Pernias, and Adolfo Donda, who were tried and imprisoned for kidnapping, torturing, murdering, and disappearing people, including children, during that regime.

“We are alarmed and concerned by the gesture of some LLA lawmakers who visited criminals against humanity in Ezeiza Prison, while their Government disregards the policies built during 40 years of democracy to consolidate the process of Memory, Truth and Justice, the association underscored.

“Astiz, Suarez, Guglielminetti, Pernias, Donda, and other criminals who participated in the meeting, had been tried, among other crimes, for the appropriation of our grandchildren. They never showed regret nor provided any information about the whereabouts of our children, nor about the 300 grandchildren we are looking for,” the movement noted.

The association further urged legislators to demand valuable data from the arrested to unravel the truth sought for 46 years.

“It would be good to be sure that the leaders elected by the people uphold the banners of the Never Again, the association recommended.
