Cuban President insists on the importance of increasing production

Havana, July 18 (Prensa Latina) The president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, stressed today the importance of increasing and taking advantage of the potential of national production, when speaking at the third period of sessions of the National Assembly of People's Power (parliament).

Dìaz-Canel urged deputies to look for ways to reduce imports and to work creatively to generate goods and distribute them equitably.

In this regard, he exemplified that mountainous municipalities in the country must be capable of self-sufficiency and guarantee essential production such as milk for infants.

During the debates on the accountability report of the Minister of Domestic Trade, Díaz-Canel insisted that the territories must fully exploit their potential, their workforce, give life to idle lands and “not accommodate.”

The head of that ministry, Betsy Díaz, explained to the deputies that the organization’s work priorities are aimed at consolidating the national commercial stewardship, controlling the legality of all economic actors that carry out activities of the sector, concretizing banking and the use of electronic collection in operations and promote the application of science and innovation.

She recognized that the main dissatisfaction of the population today are related with distribution of food from the regulated family basket and the increase in the number of basic necessities at high prices.

For her part, the president of the Commission for Attention to Services, Tamara Valido Benítez, specified that the trade stewardship requires concrete actions, more demands and adapt more quickly to changes in the economy and society. When presenting an opinion on the accountability report of the Ministry of Domestic Trade, she specified that state trade subordinated to both the provincial government and local administrations have to assume their role more quickly.

The deputies suggested that the representatives of the organization adopt a series of actions to reinforce the digital transformation and the bankarization of operations, as well as strengthen social programs.

Parliamentarian Carlos César Torres, from the municipality of San Luis, Pinar del Rio, recommended moving more quickly in the change of the Base Business Units to micro, medium and small state companies, applying more stimulating salary systems and with a larger budget.

Likewise, he proposed establishing financial mechanisms that would reduce the levels of accounts payable and improve the leasing bidding process in non-state forms.

The third regular period of sessions of the National Assembly will meet until next Saturday with an eye on core issues of the socioeconomic sphere of the Caribbean nation.
