Moscow, Jul 17 (Prensa Latina) Russia will not attack any NATO member, but will counter their efforts to promote its interests in Ukraine, the vice president of the Russian Security Council, Dmitri Medvedev, said on Wednesday.

Medvedev explained in an interview with the Argumenty i Fakty newspaper that any hostile step by the North Atlantic bloc in the territory of Ukraine or in other countries historically close to Russia will face appropriate opposition from Moscow.

He warned that the more efforts, the harsher Russia’s response will be. However, he stressed that Russia advocates mutual respect and non-interference in the affairs of other States, as well as solving problems with diplomatic efforts instead of military means for a just and multipolar world order.

The vice president of the Russian Security Council regretted that there is no one to talk to in the West now, because all their activities are done “to the detriment of Russia’s interests.”

Regarding the new Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), former Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, who will take over from Jens Stoltenberg on October 1, Medvedev noted that “he will behave as he is told” by Washington.

The vice president of the Security Council also expressed confidence that Ukraine will never become a NATO member State, adding that NATO’s only interest is “to turn Ukraine into a means to destroy Russia.”
