The statement noted that both ministers had met at the United Nations headquarters in New York, where they addressed several current issues on the bilateral agenda.
Both Lavrov and Kani reaffirmed the readiness of Russia and Iran to further strengthen the entire range of bilateral friendly relations, which reach a qualitatively new level of broad strategic cooperation.
The parties also addressed the situation surrounding the Palestine-Israel conflict “with emphasis on the need to prevent a further escalation of tensions in the region and resolve existing contradictions through political and diplomatic methods.”
The acting Iranian foreign minister told reporters that economic issues between Russia and Iran were discussed, as well as regional and international issues of mutual interest for both countries.
