President Diaz-Canel stresses the need to comply with tax policy

Havana, Jul 16 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel stressed Tuesday the need to demand the application and compliance of the tax policy, as part of the measures pursued to order the stable domestic functioning.

On his speech at the Economic Affairs Committee of the National Assembly of People’s Power (ANPP) -Parliament, the president commented that tax evasion in the non-state sector is one of the most harmful problems in the country. The head of State denounced that at a certain time in the first half of 2024, “70% of the tax accounts of the non-state management forms” were empty, when “they should have had deposits of the amounts resulting from their businesses.”

Diaz-Canel insisted that those operations cannot go to personal accounts, and explained that when comparing the sales of goods and services of several non-state enterprises, with the deposits, “it does not match the cash with the bill.”

“There is no logical relation between the large amounts of money they can generate with their bids, many motivated by a high level of imports, with what is in those fiscal accounts,” the president reaffirmed.

The senior official asserted that there are tax evasions in the state sector due to different violations, including the inefficient application of the control processes.

The problem is one of attitude of the different economic actors, whether they are state or not. It is not a matter of management or ownership. There is a high level of tax evasion and we have to clean it up, he ensured.

The president granted, “nothing of what we are questioning or debating aims at harming, what we want is to organize the country so that it is better.”

In our society, which is making great efforts in the construction of socialism, any economic entity, state or private, should feel proud, honored, for contributing with what corresponds to society, Diaz-Canel stressed.

The Economic Affairs Committee of the ANPP discussed on Tuesday how the implementation of the banking system, a process focused on reorganizing the country’s financial flow, is progressing, and evaluated the bases for the elaboration of the new tax law.

Since Monday, lawmakers of the 11 permanent commissions of the Parliament have been mulling over the main economic and social issues of Cuba, prior to the Third Ordinary Period of Sessions, in its 10th Legislature, which will be held from Wednesday through Saturday.
