Cuba maintains a fierce fight against violations and illegalities

Havana, July 17 (Prensa Latina) Government and political authorities will maintain intense confrontation against all crimes and illegal practices that persist in society, as announced today by Cuban Prime Minister, Manuel Marrero.

Talking before the National Assembly of People’s Power (ANPP, Parliament), the head of Government insisted that it is urgent to articulate actions against demonstrations and distortions that harm the economic and social development of the country.

Marrero stressed that, despite the progress in prevention, detection and clarification of violations, “it must be improved even more because progress does not satisfy the people.”

According to him, violations persist in urban planning and the creation of points of sale, illegalities such as the occupation of state property, the informal exchange of currency, tax evasion and corruption, among other illegalities.

Confronting these problems, he commented, we must begin telling the population itself, from the different localities, to report illegalities in a timely and transparent manner.

Much more can be done, demands can be strengthened, measures different from those already applied can be adopted, control, oversight and whatever action can help eliminate all violations, crimes, illegalities and distortions can be prevented, he stated.

We must avoid the causes and eliminate the conditions for crime, in addition to adopting the pertinent legal and administrative measures, when they occur, he said.

There is still a lack of control in warehouses and in the production and distribution processes of various products, he assured, and pointed out that the theft and illegal slaughter of livestock “has decreased, but is still very high.”

Regarding drug trafficking, he warned that “it is increasing” and, also, the tricks of traffickers are increasing to bring them into the country “in the most unimaginable disguised ways”.

We ratify the principle of zero tolerance to drugs. We fight drug trafficking, and we will always fight it, with all our energy, with all the criminal rigour, he said. The prime minister appeared before the ANPP, whose Third Ordinary Period of Sessions, in its 10th Legislature, began this Wednesday and concludes next Saturday.

Before the deputies, he presented a report on how the Government’s Action Plan is progressing to correct distortions boost the economy in 2024.

This Monday and Tuesday, the deputies analyzed the main problems of Cuba in the 11 permanent commissions of Parliament, with emphasis on issues related to economic performance and social programs.
