Israel has perpetrated over 500 attacks on Palestinian journalists

Ramallah, Jul 16 (Prensa Latina) The Palestinian Journalists Union stated on Tuesday that Israeli security forces and settlers have perpetrated more than 500 attacks on journalists in the occupied territories during the first six months of this year.

Speaking at a press conference in the city of Al-Bireh, the head of the journalists’ freedom committee, Muhammad Al-Laham, said that since then, 44 journalists have been killed and 108 injured.

In the first six months of 2024, Israeli troops arrested 26 Palestinian journalists and raided the homes of 14 reporters, he stressed.

He noted that 51 of 100 journalists arrested after the new cycle of violence that sparkled on October 7, 2023, remain in prison.

According to statistics released on Tuesday, the military prevented Palestinian journalists from doing their work on 151 occasions and in at least 44 cases, their equipment was destroyed.

Al-Laham condemned systematic torture in Israeli prisons, which was revealed by those released.

On Tuesday, the General Supervisor of Official Media, Ahmed Assaf, criticized the attacks on journalists.

In the last nine months, about 160 journalists and media workers have been killed in the Gaza Strip, according to official figures.
