International committee asks Ecuador to guarantee Glas’s integrity

jorge-glas-2-1024x683-1-1
Quito, Jul 16 (Prensa Latina) An international committee is seeking to restore the asylum status of former Ecuadorian Vice President Jorge Glas, who currently remains at a maximum security prison, where the politician's integrity is being violated.

Sacha Llorenti, coordinator of that committee and former secretary general of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People’s Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP), told El Universo newspaper that the initiative resulted from non-resolution of the case in the local judicial system.

He considered that the former vice president is a “political hostage” of the Government of Daniel Noboa, who is being urged to allow representatives of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) to enter the prison to check Glas’s health.

The Ecuadorian State has assumed international responsibilities before the Inter-American system, for having ratified the San Jose Pact or the American Convention on Human Rights, Llorenti pointed out.

In his opinion, the case of the former vice president, who was “kidnapped” during raid on the Mexican Embassy in Quito on April 5, can be compared to that of Wikileaks founder Julian Assange, whose rights were also violated.

We demand that Jorge Glas’s physical integrity and life is preserved, that his asylum status is restored, that he is provided with a safe conduct, and the Noboa Government allow the entry of an IACHR mission, the Bolivian ex-diplomat insisted.
