Santa Clara, capital of the Cuban province of Villa Clara, is an industrial city, with scientific and cultural development, and also stands out in other branches of the nation’s socioeconomic life.
The festivities began with the mambisa reveille and the traditional symbolic meeting at the La Cruz Bridge, under the shade of a tamarind tree between the Belico and Cubanicay rivers, with a representation of the families of Remedios, the first inhabitants of the city.
Later, in El Carmen Park, in the church of the same name, the founding mass was held, where the Bishop of the Diocese of Santa Clara, Monsignor Marcelo Arturo Gonzalez, blessed those present.
The activities for the anniversary of the city also included tributes to Marta Abreu and other symbols of the territory such as Eduardo Machado, Padre Pío, Padre Chao and Maestra Nicolasa, among others.
A solemn session of the Municipal Government Assembly was also held at the Marta Abreu Central University of Las Villas; tribute was also paid to the 91st anniversary of the founding of the provincial radio station CMHW and the literary awards Fundacion de la Ciudad will be presented in the afternoon at the Marti Provincial Library.
The celebrations will continue this Monday night with the presentation of the orchestras Adalberto Alvarez y su Son and Guzman y su Poder Latino, at the recreational area of the Sandino neighborhood.
La Villa de Santa Clara, with a population of 246,145 inhabitants, has important economic centers and historical and cultural sites such as the Ernesto Che Guevara Memorial, which houses the mortal remains of the Argentine-Cuban commander and his comrades who died in the guerrilla war in Bolivia in 1967.
