Over the weekend, the Socialist Party (PS) rejected the proposal to present Huguette Bello as the president of the Regional Council of La Reunion, promoted by the communists with support from La France Insoumise (LFI) party.
PS leader Olivier Faure stated that the party does not block the nomination, as the LFI coordinator Manuel Bompard denounced.
Candidacies are being examined and no one is getting a consensus, it is normal, this is how it works, Faure, whom the socialists consider a good choice for the post of prime minister, told France2.
The left-wing parties competed separately in the June 9 European elections; they later united for the legislative elections on June 30 and July 7 reaching around 180 seats, the main force in the National Assembly, although far from the absolute majority needed to govern by itself.
As of that victory, the NPF claims the post of prime minister and heads the government, but the ruling party, the extreme right, and the conservatives opposed it.
President Emmanuel Macron asked the country for time to create agreements and alliances, amid pressure from essential figures to lean to the right in his decision.
