The meeting will address Angola’s role in mediation and reconciliation in the confrontations that is taking place in the east of the DRC, a press release from the Foreign Ministry said.
Angola is the mediator designated by the African Union for the conflict that pits the DRC against more than 120 armed groups, but in particular with the March 23 Movement (M23), which receives support from Rwanda.
Tensions between the DRC and Rwanda have grown in recent times due to the strong offensive by the M23, which has occupied several cities and villages in the province of North Kivu, and has seized important mineral resources.
On July 11, the Government of the DRC asked the international community to adopt severe political, economic and judicial sanctions against Rwanda and its leaders for attacks on its territory.
The spokesman for the Executive and Minister of Communication and Media, Patrick Muyaya, called to punish Rwanda, which not only supports the M23 rebels, but also participates actively in the conflict in the east of the country, as revealed in a recent report by United Nations experts.
