Cuban leader learns about China’s experience in rural revitalization (+Photos)

Beijing, Jul 14 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Deputy Prime Minister Jorge Luis Tapia learned here on Sunday about major rural revitalization projects in China.

He exchanged ideas with experts in egg production.

During a tour of Lipao village, Tapia was interested in the experience of its 400 inhabitants, who have developed a socioeconomic environment around apple production.

Local authorities explained to the Cuban leader that the scientific and technological application in planting and harvesting this fruit has resulted in a qualitative leap in local people’s lives.

They informed Tapia that the village produces some 750 tons of apples every year and other service industries have been established around this production.

Agrotourism is now one of the leading sources of income for the villagers, which they combine with Lipao’s culture and traditions.

“Before China’s Reform and Opening-Up Policy in 1978, the annual per capita income here was 200 yuan, now it is 40,000 yuan, more than 5,000 dollars,” Ren Jianghao, deputy head of Beijing’s Yanqing district, said.

The deputy prime minister also visited one of Deqingyuan’s 30 factories specializing in egg production.

Tapia’s visit continues the high-level meetings among authorities, researchers, entrepreneurs, and other officials from several sectors in China to expand bilateral cooperation.
