UN Security Council bolsters talks on Sudanese conflict

United Nations, Jul 13 (Prensa Latina) The UN Security Council urged on Saturday the sides to defuse tensions in the Sudanese conflict as the agency bolsters talks between the armed actors.

A communiqué released here described as alarming the constant violations of international law in the country and the great cost of the ongoing conflict for civilians, including women and children.

It further considered the humanitarian situation and food insecurity as serious, and called for measures to allow and facilitate, in a consistent manner with the relevant provisions of international law and with the guiding UN principles.

In that regard, it stressed the need to preserve humanity, impartiality, neutrality and independence, safe and unimpeded humanitarian access throughout Sudanese territory.

The Council spurred to grasp the opportunity of the Geneva-led talks to agree on measures to rapidly achieve these goals and work towards a sustainable end to the crisis sparked by the ongoing conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and their rivals, the Rapid Support Forces.

In addition, he called on member States to avoid external interference that fuels conflict and instability and instead to support mediation efforts for a lasting peace.
