Department Director Mustafa Abdel Ghani stated that the number of schools that underwent total or partial destruction reached 1,019 in Aleppo.
He explained that the rehabilitation work is done in cooperation with some international organizations and civil associations.
Maintenance of 349 damaged schools was assessed and approved, and work was completed in 316 educational centers, while 30 were included in the next reconstruction plan, he pointed out.
Abdul-Ghani added that the Governorate has 1,881 schools with the capacity to receive more than 600,000 students.
The head of the Planning and International Cooperation Department, Firas Al-Ali, explained that there is great interest in speeding up the restoration work in order to solve the problem of the density of students in the classrooms and achieve quality education.
According to statistics published by the Syrian Ministry of Education, the number of educational centers damaged by earthquakes amounted to more than 1,450.
