During a meeting with Han Jun, secretary of the Communist Party group of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China, Tapia pointed out that the two countries’ leaders “have paid the highest attention to the development of bilateral relations and political dialogue.”
According to him, the current ties show “full maturity” and reach multiple sectors, “which reflect that we are on the right path to building the community with a shared future that Presidents Xi Jinping and Miguel Díaz-Canel agreed upon during my president’s state visit in 2022.”
Tapia particularly highlighted the historic relations in agricultural cooperation, and praised the benefits of China’s collaboration and technical assistance.
He expressed gratitude for China’s assistance, which is “a reflection of the understanding and sensitivity of the highest leadership in the ties with Cuba and to support our country at difficult times,” he emphasized.
Han Jun, in turn, praised the current state of bilateral relations and said that they are a benchmark for ties between developing countries, as well as a sign of fraternity between emerging nations.
Han highlighted agricultural cooperation in multiple areas and noted that this has contributed to further strengthening ties of friendship.
Earlier on Friday, the Cuban deputy prime minister had noted that relations between Cuba and China are an example of solidarity and cooperation between two socialist nations.
Tapia is heading a Cuban delegation that is attending the 2nd High-Level Meeting of the Forum on Global Action for Shared Development, organized by China International Development Cooperation Agency.
The event will run until Saturday under the theme “Promoting sustainable development: sustained action for a better future,” with representatives from more than 50 nations and international organizations.
As part of his agenda, Tapia met on Friday with his Chinese counterpart, Ding Xuexiang, and at another time of the day, he met with the International Trade Representative and Deputy Minister of Commerce, Wang Shouwen.
