Mexican FM assures continuity of historic ties with Haiti

Mexico-Alicia-Barcena-1
Mexico City, Jul 11 (Prensa Latina) Mexico's Foreign Affairs Secretary, Alicia Barcena, today assured the continuity of the strengthening of the historic relationship with Haiti, on the 95th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

In a column published this Thursday in the newspaper El Heraldo de México, the Foreign Minister highlighted important moments of the ties and affirmed that in recent years, the North American nation has endorsed its vocation of solidarity with the people of the Caribbean state.

She gave as an example the humanitarian support provided in the face of ‘the atrocious natural disasters that occurred in that country, such as the 2010 earthquake, the hurricane Matthew in 2016 and the earthquake that affected the southern peninsula of Haiti in 2021’.

‘Today, in the face of the most urgent challenges facing Haiti in terms of peace and security, democratic consolidation and sustainable development, Mexico continues to tirelessly promote a cooperation agenda focused on the institutional strengthening of this sister nation’, he asserted.

She said that this country has implemented collaboration programs in the areas of security, health, the fight against cholera, agriculture, and combatting climate change, among others, and highlighted the ongoing training provided to at least 762 officers belonging to the Haitian Armed Forces.

‘In view of this panorama, Mexico is a propositional and constructive agent, as was reflected in the invitation of our country received to participate in the meeting in Kingston, Jamaica, last March 11, in which a political agreement was reached between different forces,’ she recalled.

This allowed, she added, the installation of the current Presidential Transitional Council and the appointment of Garry Conille as Prime Minister.
