Bogota, Jul 11 (Prensa Latina) The Colombian Ministry of Agriculture informed on Thursday that, after three days of dialogue, it agreed with representatives of the peasantry to advance in the Agrarian Reform and the Integral Rural Reform.

According to the communiqué, they have reached consensus on 31 items that will allow the implementation of the regulations to continue.

One of the items is in charge of the Ministries of Agriculture and Environment, which will initiate the process of studies and materialization of the Second Law for Peasant Reserve Zones, while the National Land Agency will prioritize the budget to facilitate access to land, the information deepened.

Regarding the Rural Development Agency, the communiqué continued, actions were agreed on economic reactivation, the expansion of peasant market plans, productive projects, commercialization and co-financing of sustainable strategies for farmers who have been awarded land by the National Land Agency.

Likewise, the Land Restitution Unit, the Ministry of Justice and the Directorate for the Substitution of Illicit Crops will define the route of a pilot program for the substitution of coca crops in the south of Bolivar, in the northwest of the country.

The agreements are disclosed after members of Colombia’s National Peasant Agenda went on strike since July 8 and protested at the headquarters of the National Land Agency, the Rural Development Agency and the Ministry of Mines.
