Venezuelan prosecutor to hold online meeting with Colombian peer

Caracas, Jul 10 (Prensa Latina) Venezuelan Attorney General Tarek William Saab will hold an online meeting with his Colombian counterpart, Luz Adriana Camargo, to address issues related to the complaints against the Colombian paramilitary group known as Autodefensas Conquistadoras de la Sierra.

During an event called “The Public Ministry goes to your Community,” Saab informed that during the meeting, they will assess the conspiracy plotted by the Venezuelan extreme right wing against the national territory, which the irregular group made public in statements on July 4 and 6.

Saab stated on Tuesday that this is a serious incident, which national and international sectors are trying to trivialize and which deserves to be condemned.

He insisted that the Venezuelan right wing turned to the Colombian paramilitaries to attack President Nicolás Maduro, damage the power infrastructure and generate chaos in the border states to give the impression of a civil war after the results of the elections on July 28 are announced.

The intention is to create “bloodbath in our country” through terrorism and weapons, the official stressed, and warned that they will not allow it because Venezuela has managed to keep a climate of peace and coexistence in recent years.

Last Monday, the Attorney General said that he had sent a written communication to Camargo, requesting “her valuable collaboration” to investigate these actions and proceed to have the actors prosecuted by justice. He stated that they already have not only the knowledge, but also the contact “to begin acting forcefully against these criminals.”

“I hope that the Colombian Prosecutor’s Office allows Venezuelan officials to move to Colombia to work in international criminal collaboration, in order to clarify this disastrous event that is unanimously condemned by all of Venezuela,” he said.

“There are three weeks left until the elections and they are already announcing actions of violence,” he emphasized, and denounced the “sick recurrence of this sector” of the opposition.

The Public Ministry opened an investigation on Saturday and appointed the 83rd National Prosecutor’s Office to “investigate and punish new threats of assassination” against Maduro.
