India and UAE explore ways to strengthen defense and security ties

New Delhi, Jul 10 (Prensa Latina) India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) held the 12th meeting of the Joint Defense Cooperation Committee (JDCC) to strengthen ties in defense and security, military authorities informed on Wednesday.

The meeting was held in connection with a visit to Abu Dhabi by an Indian delegation headed by Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Defense Amitabh Prasad, the institution said in a statement.

In the UAE, Prasad discussed bilateral defense cooperation with Deputy Undersecretary of the Ministry of Defense Ali Abdulla Al-Ahmed and held a productive meeting with the head of the Tawazun Economic Council.

During the debates, the delegations from both countries assessed collaboration opportunities such as training, joint military exercises, defense industrial cooperation, exchanges of experts, and research and development, among other areas.

They also discussed the regional security landscape, including maritime security, and underlined the need to enhance collaboration to address challenges.

The representatives of India and the UAE agreed on the possibility of increasing academic exchanges and visits by specialists from different fields to benefit from experience and knowledge.

Parallel to the Joint Committee, talks were also held between officials from the Navy and Army of both countries.

The Indian Ministry of Defense valued the India-UAE JDCC, created in 2006, as an opportunity to further increase defense and security relations in order to strengthen their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
